All you are doing is occupying a space which Reach plc made a conscious decision to vacate. If their regional titles chose to do intelligent, insightful local news reporting, and chose to stand up for the interests of their region (in fairness, I don't the MEN has totally abandoned local news reporting; to see a Reach title which has completely abandoned the community it is supposed to be part of try the Huddersfield Daily Examiner), there would have been no need for The Mill to exist.
I could say so much more about the hypocrisy of Reach plc's regional titles seeking external funding in order to do the job they are supposed to be doing anyway, but for now I'll confine myself to saying that I will support a publication which actually wants to do regional journalism rather than one which has shown it doesn't want to.
Keep up the good work, and remember that the Manchester city region doesn't stop at Standedge Tunnel. I've lived in the Colne Valley for 30 years, and worked in Greater Manchester for all that time, and as I see it this bit of West Yorkshire looks - culturally and economically - just as much to Manchester as it does to Leeds.
Killer line which we should have used ourselves: 'the hypocrisy of Reach plc's regional titles seeking external funding in order to do the job they are supposed to be doing anyway'. Thanks for your comment David. You're right that many of these local titles seem to have chosen to go down market and base their business model around mass clicks. It probably didn't happen intentionally but more by complacency - they bought up the other titles, others went out of business, they had these monopolies in every city and they started taking their audiences for granted and publishing dozens of stories that are lucrative but have nothing to do with Manchester or Liverpool or whatever.
I really really hope you get the funding you need. I hate the websites that are full of ads - find them almost impossible to read - and I love your long in-depth articles. I share my subscription with my husband and as a pensioner I'm not in a position to do more, but I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you.
If this was a movie with the world's worst take on David & Goliath, I'd say it was the most preposterous idea ever, and that no-one would ever believe it. I'm proud to be a subscriber. Keep up the great work.
I’d like to donate a free 6 month or possibly 12 month membership as well if that is acceptable. I can’t remember how much it is annually. I’d prefer it if you offered it to someone of your choice.

That's very kind - thanks Alan. Would you mind emailing joshi@manchestermill.co.uk to organise it? Thanks
