Dear readers — it’s hard to believe that war has raged in Gaza for almost a year now, though protestors at the Labour conference currently winding down in Liverpool and elsewhere have tried to keep the conflict at the top of everyone’s minds. As unbearable horrors have mounted day after day, month after month, with no clear end in sight, we wanted to know what would compel a consultant anaesthetist in Blackburn and Burnley to return, over and over again, to care for people trapped in a war zone more than 3,000 miles away from home. Mollie speaks with Dr Matt Newport about what he’s experienced in Gaza below, and why he keeps going back. First, let’s get into the news.
