Dear members — today’s piece is about a much-loved shop in Bolton that closed ten years ago.

As high streets thin out and internet retailers increasingly dominate commerce, we thought we would look at some of the shops we are losing along the way — places that were integral to the fabric of their areas and important to local people. Today’s story is the first in our series.
