Good morning Millers - a few weeks ago I came across a couple of Tim Foster’s photographs of life in Wigan and immediately knew I needed to get them on The Mill. Foster is a successful London photographer who grew up in Wigan and returned there after the Brexit referendum to document the lives of its people.
I asked him if we could get a sneak preview of the photos, which are going into his upcoming book All Roads lead to Wigan Pier, and he kindly agreed. He’s also written a short piece to introduce himself and why he took on this project.
These photos are so humorous and evocative. They capture such varied moments - from violence in a kebab shop to a window cleaner called Barry vlogging to his YouTube audience about a pie. I’ll hand over to Tim.
