'Not every square inch of green belt is precious rolling countryside by any stretch of the imagination'

Dear Millers — in today’s story, Tom heads to Stockport. There is a big fight going on for control of the borough’s council, and we wanted to learn more about the issue that’s animating the campaign there more than any other: plans to build lots of homes on green belt land.

Polling day in the local elections — May 6th — is in just over a fortnight. We’ve just had the Lib Dem candidate Simon Lepori in our office to talk about his campaign and his party’s efforts across Greater Manchester, and yesterday we spoke to the Greens. If you know of a great local election story that we should be including in our coverage, please hit reply to this newsletter and tell us about it.
