Moira. Age 72. 2023. Restart travelling the world without proof of negative Covid and wearing a mask.

I’m beginning to get the feeling that The Mill is swerving to the Millenniums. Pleased that they are engaging with proper journalism and not just online news feeds but…………

In fairness Moira the intro to this piece says it will be a series and this first installment is a group of young people (who are probably more Gen Z than Millennial if you'll forgive the quibbling). I liked this piece and I dig the approach. Like you I am looking forward to hearing from a range of people

Hi. It wasn’t just in response to this article. It’s been a feeling I’ve had for a while. Obviously young journalists are I guess going to lean towards the interests of young people but they should also “ be writing for audience”.I like the approach too so let’s hope baby boomers, Gen Z and Millenials are all included. Not sure who comes between BB and Gen Z🤔🤔

I do generally feel The Mill gives exposure across the generations Poppy. That's why I subscribe, something for everyone and very inclusive.

Agree. Does feel a bit like you are becoming The Mill-ennial, when I imagine many of your supporters to be of a diverse, if not older, demographic. That’s fine if it’s the plan but also a shame given Manchester needs better journalism for the many.

Yes, I enjoyed reading this piece but it would be nice if you did a similar piece on us oldies. There are still some people around who think we sit in the house and watch TV all day but nothing could be further from the truth. It's time we were given an outing.

2022 wasn't a very good year for me, because I was out of action with chronic gout from the day that Russia invaded Ukraine until the autumn, and it took ages for the medication to work. It was a real drag being stuck at home after all that time in lockdown with the pandemic. Being online was my lifeline to the outside world and distracted me from the constant pain. Gout used to be a rich old person's disease but now younger people in their 20s and 30s are getting it - it's the Western lifestyle folks - gets all of us in the end if we don't watch out.

Now I'm going to make up for it and it's all systems go. Got to head back to the gym and raise my fitness levels, also starting some voluntary work with the Halle Orchestra archivist at the end of January. I'm looking for some more voluntary work to add to it as I like to have some structure to my days. 45 years of work has left its mark on me.

I turn 70 in August, so haven't got any time to lose. Still plenty of life left in me, - was told by someone recently that I didn't look old enough to have a pensioner travel pass which cheered me up no end.

Happy new year to everyone at the Mill who are toiling away to bring us the local news, and to my fellow Mill subscribers.

Yes Elaine, it would drive me crackers watching TV all day, that's the way to addle your brain no doubt about it. If you can ( everyone a similar age to us) remain inquisitive and engaged in lots of things. Voluntary work, great, I volunteered for many years for the National Trust and started before I retired. I also have friends across the age ranges too, keeps me in touch .
