We live in a cottage on the outskirts of Stockport where hatters used to work in a communal attic - the cottages have since been firmly walled off from each other because of fire hazards! There are so many similar buildings throughout the region that I'm not sure it's essential to retain ones that have clearly fallen into total disrepair. Obviously nobody cared about them prior to the proposed demolition. Perhaps more articles like yours that inform people about our architectural heritage could be more important than these specific cottages. Or maybe a mock-up in one of our museums. There are plenty of thriving workers' cottages both in Greater Manchester and just across all the borders to use as models.
