I'm afraid that a thorough investigation from 2002 on would have been called 'racial profiling' - and in some respect it is, detrimental to the career.... The police knew that and so they played dead.

Why is it that these investigations always 'appear' to be historic? Do we ever hear of any level of current investigations?

Have those who abused the young and vulnerable suddenly learned a lesson? Are they continuing now, and today Sunday 19th. July? Is there a joint unit of Social Services and The Police who are in a permanent position of monitoring?

Will we, in 10 years time breeding of investigations dating back to offences in 2020?

Just asking out of interest!

Good q Alec. Certainly there have been a LOT of historic investigaitons into child sexual abuse in the past decade, as society (or maybe, as authorities) wake up to the problem. There are also lots of investigations reported in the news about more recent offences. I'll cover some of those too. But I guess there is a lot of catching up to do.

Re: your question about Sunday 19th: this is one to ask the council and police. They would say (and you would hope) that similar offences committed right now would prompt lots of reaction. But who knows.

Thanks Joshi - when we're fired by a sense of justified revulsion - we have to be cautious in the extreme that we don't use it as a banner - we have to resist the temptation to 'campaign' however justified the cause.

We (Society) need(s) to act in a clear and focused manner and to stop what is most likely to be continuing. Permanent catch-up achieves very little - justice for the victims, of course, but then we read that those who were the prey are now all so often reluctant to come forward.

The penultimate paragraph and the lines …. *could have political implications, given how the far-right has exploited the issue in the past ….*

Where is the evidence that any political persuasion exploited or profited from the investigations? - - not taking sides, just interested in The Mill claim, to support unbiased reporting, rather than speculation.

Hi Alec - founder/editor of The Mill here. By exploited I mean 'used' - this type of abuse has been used by the far-right to make bigoted and baseless claims about Asian communities in Britain more generally. I don't necessarily think they have profited from it - they haven't done well in elections in any consistent way, or been able to mobilise widespread support online. But if you spend time in far-right Facebook groups etc, you will see the grooming gang stories mentioned again and again. Hope that answers your question and thanks for taking the time to comment on the story. Feel free to reply to this to tell me I'm wrong - I'm keen for open and spirited debate in The Mill's comments, and keen to hear from readers if they think I've got something wrong.

Accepted and understood. You are also correct - I simply didn't think quite far enough, to the Right!

Beware the extremist - - advice that I was given 50 years ago and as valued then, as now.

I will follow you with interest - I would like to 'share' by way of promotion - is such a facility available?

They aren't 'baseless' by any stretch of the imagination - and part of the problem is that the media won't acknowledge this, just as the police and councillors wouldn't.. and then you wonder why "the far-right" or actually just normal people claim that there is two-tier policing, that there is historic inaction due to fear of being racist and so on. You might argue as does NA that it was opportunity in the night time economy, not cultural or religious - but this doesn't stand up either. How is it there hasn't been mass organised rape by nightclub and bar owners? for example..

This is the dishonesty of the 'progressive' pretend - left. It's not exploiting an issue to be angry about the systematic rape of girls, that happened, and was allowed specifically because they were white and working class.

Luke Tyson ~ we now live in a world where Right and Wrong are of little relevance ~ offending the sensibilities of those who would claim to be Woke and/or Snowflake, is of far greater importance.

If we've learned nothing over the last 30 years, we have at least, learned how to be offended on behalf of someone else, and I for one, am sick of it.

I spent quite some time in the desert with the Bedu ~ they are incredulous that we permit such insipid hand wringing to dominate our daily thinking ~ and yes of course, they are Muslim, Muslim and decent and honourable people and should those grooming gangs who plied their revolting practices in our Midlands cities, done so amongst those with whom I lived, they would have faced execution ~ assuming that they made it to a Court.

When a particular group of people are targeted for abuse it's a hate crime as well. These guys have no shame because they think that European women are beneath them and that it's their right to take sex slaves. They feel entitled as well because of all of the fools who let them get away with it by screaming racism. This is ridiculous. If they can't behave like descent people then they should not be allowed to stay nor should any more people from the culture be allowed to immigrate.
