On the first day Oksana was broken. On the fourth, it was time to take action
'From Manchester with love'
Dear members — today’s piece takes us to Prestwich, where Oksana Nepijvoda, a Ukrainian woman, is coordinating a group of volunteers. Amongst their number is Del, who is driving a van of donations almost 30 hours to Ukraine by himself.
📰 In other (news-related) news, we were delighted to get a shout out on industry website HoldtheFrontPage, who picked up on our recent plea from editor Joshi. He told them:
Most of our towns and cities have a local newspaper monopoly now, and most of those newspapers are owned by one of the big companies that dominate local news.
If we want a healthier sector, we need new models and new companies to come up to challenge those monopolies, and I hope anyone funding initiatives in this sector can support the tiny upstarts rather than the established players.
