Amongst the hundreds of tweets about that story, we got an interesting reply from a Miller called Paul J Beck, suggesting a way to tackle the payment problems we highlighted in the piece. “Make it a condition of their alcohol licence that they have to pay their staff as a priority debt,” he tweeted. “Should have an effect, staff could report failure to pay wages to licensing authorities, they could intervene under threat of suspending alcohol licence.” Would that work?
