Putting aside the fact that I'm still angry about the cancellation of HS2, does anyone understand this latest cash handout from Sunak?

Surely, when planning a massive infrastructure project of the scale of HS2, there must be a whole series of economic calculations. A business case, a cost benefit analysis, a consideration of potential return for the massive investment?

The money isn't just sitting in sacks in Hunt's office. I'm sure there's at least one Mill economist out there who can put me straight!

You're absolutely right Malcolm - the funds for HS2 were to be borrowed against future revenue from the line. It's a disingenuous way of presenting things

It's more than disingenuous, it's factually inaccurate. It's also not due to come in until 2025, i.e. after the election.
