Subject: Re: The beautiful, ingenious ginnel gardens of Levenshulme

I remember as a small kid, growing up in the ginnels and 'entrys' which doubled as our sports pitches. Many cricketing and dribbling skill were honed and perfected from crack of dawn to nightfall. Light was supplied from the rear kitchens or those posh enough to afford lights in the back yard. Later, it doubled as our meeting places and 'mechanics' workshop as we talked about girls, drank Vimto, chewed liquorice sticks while repairing or tarting up our bogey's. Great times, a different world and we never strayed into other gangs ginnels, or else!

An uplifting read, lovely way to spend a bit of time on a socially distanced Sunday afternoon.

Lovely story that's bound to inspire other ginnel owners :)

This is a great local story. There's a famous row of terraced house gardens in Compstall where community spirit is displayed with similar beauty and generosity.
