Jonathan Schofield is an estimable writer who built Manchester Confidential off the back of failing City Life (whose 40th anniversary is 2023). He is an iconic tour guide who brings scholarship, insight, passion & humour to the Manchester story. He is, in so many respects, part of that story himself. For whatever reasons he chooses to support his friend Mark Garner, I know it will be nothing if not loyalty. The line of people who will discredit Garner grows longer by the day. I don’t believe this reflects badly on Schofield, I just hope he doesn’t find reason to join the queue.
West was not murdered in Moss Side, it was Norton Street in Old Trafford. I know geographically this isn't far but placing this in the wrong district feeds into the rhetoric of 'gunchester' of the 80s eg. all the bad stuff must happen in Moss Side...where all the young black kids live. It's important that these facts are right and its respectful to the victim, and to the residents of Moss Side.
